WE LOVE IT BECAUSE:

Located at the highest point on the Côte Brune slope, Fongeant is a specific plot of land. Planted in 1954, Pierre Jean Villa has been using a horse to plow the land since he acquired it in 2013. The wine is crafted with two-thirds or 100% whole cluster and is not subjected to fining or filtering, varying depending on the vintage.

Purple fruits, smoke, cured meat, and violets are all present in the nose of this wine. The freshness and elegance are astounding and the fruity flavors are exceptional. The finish is radiant and lengthy, with a touch of minerality, making this a truly fantastic Côte-Rôtie.

In the footsteps of his ancestors, Pierre Jean Villa has been working the vineyards all of his life. He learned to make wine at Clos de Tart in Burgundy, it was here he learned to refine the elegance of the grape. He perfected his craft in the Rhone Valley working at Vins de Vienne. In 2009 he embarked on his own journey as independent wine grower. His son Hugo and daughter Pauline work the vineyards along side him and bottle their own wines under the Hugo and Pauline Villa brand.

Cote Rotie, the "Roasted Slope" is located in the Northern Rhone Valley near the town of Ampuis. The heart of the appellation are the two slopes nearest to Ampuis, the Cote Blonde and Cote Brun. Cote Rotie is based on Syrah min. 80% with upto 20% Viognier allowed, often co fermented. Co Fermenting stabilizes the colour and moderates the tannin extraction.
