WE LOVE IT BECAUSE:

An elegant garnet red with orange-coloured highlights. On the nose it's very fruity, elegant, and intense. On the palate its got excellent body with power while maintaining balance. Cellar for 10-15 years after release. This Barolo pairs best with red meats in general, game, mature cheeses.

The 2017 vintage in Barolo:

The 2017 vintage was arid; not only a great heat, but also the absence of rainfall for a longer period, which ended after more than two months with 25mm of water at the end of August and early September. The harvest was inevitably brought forward to the second decade of September, a period preceded by a lowering of the average temperature and by day / night differentials wider than the average. This fresher conclusion allowed for excellent development and the analysis data was encouraging, without resulting in irreversible damage. The temperature range is an excellent ingredient.

Barolo wines of the 2017 vintage: The Barolo wines of the 2017 vintage are characterized by very interesting, lively and deep intensity and tones, with intense olfactory notes, often alcoholic and fruity, and generally well ripe and soft tannins.

Mauro Mascarello is the last remaining giant of the great Barolo generation that included Giovanni Conterno and Bartolo Mascarello.

Mauro has been the winemaker for the Giuseppe Mascarello estate since the late 1960s, succeeding his father, Giuseppe, and his grandfather, Maurizio, both legends in their time. And like them, Mauro is a traditionalist dedicated to long fermentations and aging in old botti.

But Mauro has also made important changes, not the least of which was the creation of a single Barolo from the great Monprivato vineyard in 1970. Prior to that year, his family had always made their towering Barolos and Barolo Riservas by blending Monprivato fruit with grapes from other sites.

Piedmont translates literally to "Foot of the Mountains" in this case, the Alps. The region has many parallels to Burgundy, vineyards handed down through generation, increasing demand paired with increasing price. The top grape of the region is Nebbiolo, labelled regionally as Barolo, Barbaresco or Langhe Nebbiolo. The wines that require long term aging reward time in the cellar, while you are waiting for them to mature, enjoy regional wines of Barbera or Dolcetto
