WE LOVE IT BECAUSE:

This wine offers a balanced and intriguing profile, avoiding an overly strong character. It presents a harmonious blend of red fruit flavors, accented by hints of limestone, menthol, and violet. Marengo's Brunate vineyard is a highly respected cru located in the La Morra commune, at an elevation of 350 meters. The family has owned this parcel since 1903, and the vines average 70 years old. The wine is aged for 24 months in 15% new oak barriques.

This estate was established by the Marengo family in 1899. Today, Marco and Eugenia (Jenny) Marengo hold some of the finest, south-facing, mid-slope vineyards in Brunate. They own just 6 ha in total, and still don?t have a website. So while this estate is perhaps a bit under the radar with some of the more famous houses garnering much of the press and acclaim ? those who have the distinct pleasure to know the wines from Marengo, know.

Piedmont translates literally to "Foot of the Mountains" in this case, the Alps. The region has many parallels to Burgundy, vineyards handed down through generation, increasing demand paired with increasing price. The top grape of the region is Nebbiolo, labelled regionally as Barolo, Barbaresco or Langhe Nebbiolo. The wines that require long term aging reward time in the cellar, while you are waiting for them to mature, enjoy regional wines of Barbera or Dolcetto.
