WE LOVE IT BECAUSE:

Starderi, named for the MGA vineyard site in Neive, is a limited production of just 5,000 bottles. Aged for 21 months in stage-2 toasted tonneaux, followed by 16 months in bottle, this wine reveals a complex nose of blackberry jam, raspberry, prune, sour cherry, and fresh violet. The palate unfolds with layers of licorice, peppermint, red currant, and a slate-like minerality. The finish is soft and elegant, hinting at its bright aging potential.

Lino Icardi planted the first grapevine more than a century ago. Back then it was all about a small number of wine rows. Most of the grapes were sold back then while some were kept to make wine for the family.

The Icadri winery is located in Castiglione Tinella, within the Province of Cuneo, between the Lower Langa and the Monferrato Regions. The rolling hills are almost completely covered in vineyards as far as the eye can see.

Piedmont translates literally to "Foot of the Mountains" in this case, the Alps. The region has many parallels to Burgundy, vineyards handed down through generation, increasing demand paired with increasing price. The top grape of the region is Nebbiolo, labelled regionally as Barolo, Barbaresco or Langhe Nebbiolo. The wines that require long term aging reward time in the cellar, while you are waiting for them to mature, enjoy regional wines of Barbera or Dolcetto.
