WE LOVE IT BECAUSE:

Overflowing with an abundance of juicy fruits, delicious berries and invigorating green accents. Gentle on the taste buds with a sharp, lip smack-worthy finale...

It's hard to pick our favourite Beaujolais producer but the proof is in the results that Domaine Colette is a customer favourite.

Jacky Gauthier's family has been making wine in the Regnie Cru of Beajolais for generations. Today he and his wife Evelyne and his uncle work the family vineyards.

The soils at Colette are worked organically in an effort to promote healthy and vigorous root systems. Only vegetable-based fertilizers are used. They shallow-plow between the vines during plant dormancy to force the roots down into the subsoil (and thus hopefully take on more of the terroir characteristics of each cru). They limit vine treatments during the year and intervene only when completely necessary. A green harvest is performed to give more concentrated grapes. Harvest is by hand, and only healthy grape clusters are emptied into the tank.

Beaujolais is located at the southern tip of Burgundy. Gamay is the red varietal of the region but there is also a small amount of Chardonnay that is produced here as well. Gamay was once planted through out the entire region of Burgundy but was exiled in 1935 by King Phillip the Bold, exclaiming it was an "evil and disloyal plant." Thanks to Philips dramatics it was discovered that Gamay thrived in the Beaujolais region and the style of Beaujolais Nouveau became quite fashionable. The region bears so much more potential than the Nouveau style. In the 10 cru sites some seriously age worthy wines are crafted. They are a sommeliers secret weapon for pairing and you can get a great bottle for a slight price.
