WE LOVE IT BECAUSE:

"As I wrote in my barrel tasting note, the 2009 appears to be the finest Gruaud Larose since their 1990. Some of my concerns about too much brett in previous vintages are long gone as the purity of the 2009 jumps out. Copious notes of sagebrush, cedar, cigar box, licorice, incense, blackberries and lead pencil shavings suggest a big Pauillac rather than a St.-Julien. Broad, rich and full-bodied with good balance and abundant, but sweet, well-integrated tannin, this big, masculine Gruaud Larose reveals remarkable finesse, richness, extract, density and a cascade of fruit that nearly hides the lofty tannins. This beauty should be at its best between 2020-2045."

- Robert Parker (95 points)

Chateau Gruaud Larose is based in the Saint Julien appellation of the Bordeaux region and is owned by the Merlaut family. It is situated on the left-bank of Medoc, near the Pauillac appellation.

This winery also has some famous neighbors, including Chateau Margaux, Chateau Leoville Poyferre, Chateau Branaire-Ducru, and Chateau Mouton Rothschild.

Gruaud Larose is one of the fifteen Deuxiemes Grand Cru Classe (Second Growths.)

It produces a stunning red wine with the same name, and a second wine, Sarget de Gruaud Larose. It uses Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot to create these unique blends.

St Julien is located on the left bank of Bordeaux. The small commune has the highest concentration of classed growths. The Cabernet Sauvignon based wines that are produced here are structured, perfumed and elegant.
