Domaine Armand Heitz’s history goes back to 1857. Over the years, the family of Georges Lochardet, who was a wine merchant acquired significant prime vineyards totaling 20 ha, and when he passed away he left 50% of it to his son Armand. Armand had 3 children, and in 1983 his daughter Brigitte married Christian Heitz, and few years later Domaine Armand Heitz was founded. For years, all the wines were sold to Maison Drouhin who took care of the vineyards as well.
After finishing his formal studies in 2011, Brigitte & Christian’s son, Armand Heitz took charge of the domaine. At the beginning, he received from the family two small plots to explore and test his winemaking skills. Following his first success, he got control of more serious plots, including tiny holding in Chevalier-Montrachet, and produced his first commercial wines in 2013.
“One of the most emblematic cuvées of the estate. I have been working on this terroir since 2013, my first vintage. It is a terroir with a singular personality, totally opposite to the cliché of a Pommard. This image of rustic and masculine wines is totally reversed by the elegance and finesse of Clos des Poutures. A light color that I like to keep this way. My philosophy is to reveal the terroir and not go against its personality. This disruptive side makes it one of my favourite wines.” – Armand Heitz
This wine is 50% whole cluster and spends 14 months in oak, 20 to 40% of which is new.
“Mode color, like all the reds of this region. Beautiful depth. Whole clusters. Rose that grows on red fruits. Beautiful intensity, a complex personality, structured but unimportant tannins. Great wine. To keep, but already excellent.” Bill Nanson – Burgundy Report 2017
“The aromas of oak are obvious, mixed with those of crushed strawberries, and a slight note of raspberries. Long and pleasant mouth” Jasper Morris – Inside Burgundy 2018
