WE LOVE IT BECAUSE:

Lironeros is the nickname given to the inhabitants of Briones in Rioja Alta; and this wine is the joint project of Daniel Puras and Miguel Merino. In 2022, Daniel and Miguel acquired an old vineyard planted in the 1940s in the El Carrascal area, southeast of Briones. It is a 0.5-hectare plot planted with Tempranillo and Garnacha Blanca on east-facing clay-limestone soils.

Miguel Merino has a colourful past including a past in the wine exporting business and a stretch of time spent studying law and medicine. Miguel purchases his first plot in 2001 and now owns 8.5 hectares. Miguel Merino works with four other growers in the area and the main focus of the winery is to produce fully terror driven wines, something which is beautifully evident in their wines.

Located in Northwestern Spain in the area of Briones, Rioja Alta which is incredibly small with only a dozen or so wineries in the area. A wide variety of soil types is of huge importance to the area and is perfect for the most classic blends, but also for terroir influenced wines. Modern wineries started popping up around the railroad that stopped in Haro. The railroad opened in 1880 and was between Longrono and Bilboa. The first to arrive was R. Lopez de Heredia Landeta in 1877, followed by CVNE in 1879, and other notable houses followed!
