WE LOVE IT BECAUSE:

‘Lacima’ from Dominio do Bibei is made from a selection of their oldest vines - ranging from 60-110 years old. Comprised of 70% Mencia and 14% Mouraton, the rest is shared between native varietals like Brancellao, Alicante Bouschet and Souson. Aged for 24 months in french oak barrels prior to bottling. This wine is austere, with expressive bright red fruit, powdery minerality, hints of vanilla and anise.

Established in 2001 by Javier Dominguez as part of an endeavor to reconnect with familial roots in Ribeira Sacra. The winery is located in and named for the breathtaking Bibei Valley. The vineyards are scattered throughout the steep hills at elevations anywhere from 350 to 950m above sea level. Reverence for the land is centric to Dominio do Bibei. The vineyards are cultivated using biodynamic methods and the winery itself has been built below ground so as to not interfere with the natural scenery of the region.

The sweeping valleys of Ribeira Sacra, which translates to “Sacred Riverbank” sit in the heart of Galicia. The continental-mediterranean climate and mountainous terrain composed of granite, schist and slate make for optimal wine growing conditions. Because of the dramatic nature of the landscape, with some vineyards planted on nearly vertical slopes, mechanical harvesting is nearly impossible. Exciting and high quality wines have been produced in Ribeira Sacra since Roman times.
