WE LOVE IT BECAUSE:

This Morgon is powerful and age worthy, dark in color and fragrant, with a particular flavor profile, with cherry, ripe peach aromas and other red and black fruit, ripe stone fruit, and fruit brandy characteristics that may be balanced by mineral notes.

Philippe spent many years working in IT in Paris and his story is not the classic winemaker tale we're so often telling. He farms 2,5 hectares of vines in Regnie-Durette on the Haute-Ronze sector. These vines produce wines classified in Cru Regnie and Beaujolais Villages. This granitic terroir is known for producing smooth and fruity wines with a delicate tannic structure.

He uses the soils as a guide in his terroir, out of respect he banned the use of chemical pesticides and deems the wines as 'natural' although he doesn't describe himself as a natural wine fundamentalist.

Beaujolais is located at the southern tip of Burgundy. Gamay is the red varietal of the region but there is also a small amount of Chardonnay that is produced here as well. Gamay was once planted through out the entire region of Burgundy but was exiled in 1935 by King Phillip the Bold, exclaiming it was an "evil and disloyal plant." Thanks to Philips dramatics it was discovered that Gamay thrived in the Beaujolais region and the style of Beaujolais Nouveau became quite fashionable. The region bears so much more potential than the Nouveau style. In the 10 cru sites some seriously age worthy wines are crafted. They are a sommeliers secret weapon for pairing and you can get a great bottle for a slight price.
