WE LOVE IT BECAUSE:

An elegant garnet red with orange-coloured highlights. On the nose it's very fruity, elegant, and intense. On the palate its got excellent body with power while maintaining balance. Cellar for 10-15 years after release. This Barolo pairs best with red meats in general, game, mature cheeses.

The 2018 vintage in Barolo:

The winter season lasted until the beginning of March with temperatures below the historical average, favouring a slow vegetative restart of the vine. Both spring and the first part of summer continued with
frequent rainfall and a cool climate.

Between the end of May and the beginning of June there was a period characterized by numerous disturbances that led to abundant rains, which created some difficulties from the point of view of vineyard management.

From the middle of July the temperatures have risen significantly; the long and stable period of good weather favored the slow and regular ripening of the grapes, while maintaining the heterogeneity between the vineyards.

The wines are generally characterized by a good aromatic profile, freshness, and very enjoyable to drink.

Mauro Mascarello is the last remaining giant of the great Barolo generation that included Giovanni Conterno and Bartolo Mascarello.

Mauro has been the winemaker for the Giuseppe Mascarello estate since the late 1960s, succeeding his father, Giuseppe, and his grandfather, Maurizio, both legends in their time. And like them, Mauro is a traditionalist dedicated to long fermentations and aging in old botti.

But Mauro has also made important changes, not the least of which was the creation of a single Barolo from the great Monprivato vineyard in 1970. Prior to that year, his family had always made their towering Barolos and Barolo Riservas by blending Monprivato fruit with grapes from other sites.

Piedmont translates literally to "Foot of the Mountains" in this case, the Alps. The region has many parallels to Burgundy, vineyards handed down through generation, increasing demand paired with increasing price. The top grape of the region is Nebbiolo, labelled regionally as Barolo, Barbaresco or Langhe Nebbiolo. The wines that require long term aging reward time in the cellar, while you are waiting for them to mature, enjoy regional wines of Barbera or Dolcetto
