Miguel Merino has a colourful past including a history in the wine exporting business and a stretch of time spent studying law and medicine. Miguel purchases his first plot in 2001 and now owns 8.5 hectares. Miguel Merino works with four other growers in the area and the main focus of the winery is to produce fully terroir driven wines, something which is beautifully evident in their bottles.

Located in Northwestern Spain in the area of Briones, Rioja Alta is incredibly small with only a dozen or so wineries in the area. A wide variety of soil types is of huge importance to the region and is perfect for the most classic blends, but also for terroir influenced wines. Modern wineries started popping up around the railroad that stopped in Haro. The railroad opened in 1880 and was between Longrono and Bilboa. The first to arrive was R. Lopez de Heredia Landeta in 1877, followed by CVNE in 1879, and other notable houses followed!
