Melea works with dry-farmed (no irrigation) vineyards that are low-yielding, concentrating the flavours within each grape. The name Melea comes from the subgenus of the rare bee, Anthophora Melea. We all know by now the important role bees play in our food supply chain, but they are important to our wine supply chain, too! They pollinate surrounding plants and carry around the natural yeasts of the vineyard, used in the fermentation process. It probably goes without saying, but Melea does not use any toxic chemicals that harm bees and are certified organic and vegan. The bee motif on the label was bandaged together with recycled threads and represents the repairing and healing of the environment. If Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio had a baby, it would be Verdejo! If you haven’t had the opportunity to try one, now is your chance. It is packed with lemon, zesty grapefruit and white flowers. The palate is dry, ripe and tropical and requires nothing but a sunny spot on your patio.
