Belpoggio is the newest member of the Market Wines Family and we are thrilled to have them aboard. The estate of about 10 hectares, half of which are dedicated to Sangiovese and the other part to olive groves. Enrico Martellozzo’s Brunello di Montalcino comes from a five-hectare vineyard located a stone’s throw away from the sun-drenched abbey at Castelnuovo dell’Abate. In line with the characteristics of this subzone that include darker more structured wines, Belpoggio’s rendition tend to be deeply laden with ripe fruit, clove and baking spice, and show well even when young.
The 2018 Brunello is nicely developed nose with hints of tobacco and old barrel-wood. It lingers on with aromas of ripe plums and blue berries, ash, wet earthy and tar. The palate is firmly woven with liquorice, some smoky and toasty tones, with a touch of coffee and liquorice. It’s persistent and quite powerful with good depth and solid finish. Lovely Brunello!
