It’s summertime, and the living’ is easy, so we’ve selected some of our favourite summer whites so you can easily stay refreshed during these toasty dog days!
Librandi 20202 Ciro Bianco $22.95
This wine is made from 100% Greco Bianco, a white variety brought to Calabria by the ancient Greeks. Fresh, fruity and pleasant, it brings echoes of summer, grilled fish and holiday happiness. Aromas of peaches and citrus fruits complement undertones of herbs and flowers. On the palate, zesty freshness and a long finish showcase this wine’s subtle hints of toasted almonds and macadamia nuts.
Catanga NV Organic White Frizzante $21.95
Catanga boasts some of the largest organic vineyards in the EU, in central Spain, in La Mancha. The dry, stony soils of the region make organic production much easier than other parts of the world. Catanga is named after the stone huts that were traditionally used to store grapes in the winery. This lightly sparkling wine is a blend of Airen and Sauvignon Blanc. Light and fresh it is ideal for starting brunch or on its own.
Maison Perret 2020 Roussette de Savoie Altesse $31.95
Nestled in the heart of the French Alps, the Perret family has been settled in the village of Jongieux (Savoie, France) since 1927. Three generations later, they are producing some of the tops wines of the region. This is 100% Altesse (aka Roussette), wines made from Altesse have exotic aromas like passionfruit and pineapple, with notes of almond and white truffle, and have good acidity; they’re also considered to age very well.
Stefan Meyer 2021 Ein Liter Riesling $29.95
Stefan Meyer was born to be a winemaker, just like his father and his grandfather, and even his great-grandfather. The family’s estate, located in Germany’s Pfalz, was founded in 1954, with Stefan taking the reins in 2011. As of 2021 all of their 16 hectares of vines are certified organic. This dry Riesling is easy drinking and uncomplicated with notes of green apple, lemon, nectarine and a wisp of honey. And it’s a 1L to boot!
Bernabeleva 2021 Camino de Navaherreros Blanco $25.95
The team at Bernabeleva work their vineyards with respect and in balance with nature, without looking for or placing labels. The wines, made from indigenous varieties, are marked by the differences in orientation, vegetation, altitude and soil of each place. In the cellar they try to maintain the virtues of the raw material that the vineyard gives them.
The Camino de Navaherreros Blanco is lively field blend comprised of mainly Albillo Real and Macabeo, the wine is fresh and bright with notes of white peach, pineapple, tangerine and hint of salinity. This is a staff favourite and pairs beautifully with grilled white fish.
Château L’Ermite D’Auzan 2022 Blanc $25.95
Château L’Ermite is one of our favourite finds from Costieres de Nimes the south of France. The winery has been operated by the Castillon family for four generations! The vineyards face the Mediterranean Sea and bask in the sunshine while enjoying cooling ocean breezes. This lovely white is a blend of 60% Roussanne (which provides freshness) and then equal parts Grenache Blanc and Viognier, which add richness and texture. Notes of chamomile, honeysuckle, nectarines, pears and beezwax delight! Pair this with an asparagus & cheese tart, risotto or white fish.
