Shooting Star 2020 Zinfandel – Lake County, California $25.95
Shooting Star is a project from Steele Wines, which have been a staple on our shelves since we opened! It’s another example of Jed Steele’s commitment to excellent value, old-school Cali wines. The wine has rich bramble notes as well a light herbal tone that Zinfandel is known for, without being overbearing or feeling like the fruit is over extracted. Look to pair with beef or hearty stews.
Steele 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon – Lake County, California $31.95
The grapes are pressed into stainless steel tanks and undergo 2-3 week fermentation with an extended maceration to extract every ounce of flavour. This wine is then laid down in French oak barrels to age for a year. This wine has a rich, fruit-forward elegance. A spicy fruit and berry core, backed up by soft tannins.
Sarah Selections ‘Latido De Sara’ 2021 Garnacha Tinto – Navarra, Spain $18.95
These wines are part of Sara Selections- a wine group of wine families in Spain and France. These wines are made in one of the oldest wineries in Navarah. They are named as an ode to Sara’s father who passed away due to heart problems. This juicy red is bright ruby in colour. Aromas of ripe red fruits like cherries, strawberries and raspberries. This fruit is balanced with notes of vanilla and balsamic.
Schneider Zweigelt 1L – Thermenregion, Austria $23.95
Weingut Schneider is located in Tattendorf, known as the “isle of red wine”, in Austria’s Thermenregion. The stony vineyard sites found here are ideal for retaining warmth and assisting ripening red grapes, making it perfect for Zweigelt. The nose is bursting with cherry and violet notes and in the mouth it’s silky smooth with lovely baking spices and a freshness that will leave you beaming with joy.
Librandi 2021 Ciro Rosso – Calabria, Italy $22.95
The Librandi family has been making wine in Calabria for the past four generations and in the small area of Ciro for three decades. This Rosso is made of Gaglioppo [gah-lee-oh-po], a rare Italian grape variety that is related to Sangiovese. This medium bodied wine has notes of red currants, red berries, tobacco and leather. This might become your new go to pizza and red sauce pasta wine!
Barahonda Fenómeno 2020 Monastrell – Yelca, Spain $21.95
Yelca is the smallest wine region in Spain! They predominantly grow Monastrell, a grape otherwise known as Mouverdre. Fruit forward with notes of black plum, blackberries, and dried raisins, all balanced with a smokey undertone. This full bodied wine has velvety tannins, it’s a perfect wine for those who love Californian Cabernet and want to try something new at an approachable price point. Open a bottle up next time you slow cook short ribs.
