We’ve gone blue in the face talking about how people shouldn’t be afraid of German Rieslings so we thought it was about time that we made a pack of 3 distinct styles of Riesling from the same producer. The Kühn Estate has been a cornerstone of Rhinegau wine-making for roughly 230 years and has been passed down through 11 generations. Under Peter Jakob Kuhn they decided in 2004 to convert and certify to organic and biodynamic viticulture and winemaking. Peter Jakob was also voted German Winemaker of the year in 2016, so you know you getting exceptional quality! These are some of our favourite Rieslings not only in our shop but the wine market as whole!
Weingut Peter Jakob Kuhn 2020 ‘Lenchen’ Kabinett
This off-dry riesling perfectly expresses what happens when sugar and acidty are balanced. The wine only has the tiniest amount of sweetness which is countered by its acidity to create a harmonious, medium soft body. This aromatic wine shows a plethora of of citrus, ginger, pear, apricot and vanilla. Enjoy with spicy pork or shrimp ramen.
Weingut Peter Jakob Kuhn 2020 Hallgarten
The Hallgarten Riesling trocken Alte Reben combines old vines from three different single vineyards in Hallgarten, which has some of the highest elevation vineyards in the Rheingau. The nose is clear, bright, intense and complex in its purity. With notes of yellow fruit and uplifting aromas of floral and ethereal terroir notes. Medium to full-bodied, this is a silky, enormously pure and elegant, and saline driven Riesling.
Weingut Jakob Kuhn 2020 ‘Oestricher Klosterberg’
The Oestricher Klosterberg vineyard is on very steep south facing slopes. This wine is part of the German VDP ranking, on that ranking it falls in Estre Lage (IG), which is the second highest designation. You can think of this as a 1er cru wine! After fermentation this riesling is aged for over a year in leese, which adds a slight creamy texture to the palate. On the nose you’ll find notes of crushed flint, elderberry, apple cider and lemon zest. On the palate this wine retains a lively acidity and long finish. Enjoy with dim sum, drink now or hold.
