Keeners for Maynard Wines
This unique pack is the ultimate gift for Tool Heads and Wine Nerds alike! Made in very small production by Tool frontman Maynard Keenan in Northern Arizona. These wines only reach select states in very small quantities and rarely leave the United States. We are fortunate to be the only ones to receive these in Western Canada. Their rarity and cult following add to their value as gifts.
Caduceus is a symbol of Hermes or Mercury in Greek and Roman mythology. The Caduceus symbol is identified with thieves, merchants, and messengers. All of these wines are inspired by Mythical Ancient Gods. Made by international wine varieties, each wine correlates with a well known wine region around the world. Maynard, aims to make his wines as food friendly as possible, so their finesse may surprise you.
Merkin Vineyards 2021 Chupacabra- Willcox, Arizona $46.95
The Chupacabra is a creature with its origins in the Americas, allegedly first sighted in Puerto Rico. The Merkin Vineyards wines can be seen as entry level Maynard wines. This red blend is always a shapeshifting blend of various red grapes from Willcox. The 2021 vintage is 35% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 30% Mourvèdre. Warming spice notes, leather, violets and baked red fruit dominate this wine.
Caduceus 2018 Nagual de la Naga- Yavapai County, Arizona- $84.95
Naga is a mythical creature from South East Asian tradition, rooted in Hinduism and Buddhism. It is half man and half serpent. This wine hails from their Eliphante Block, which is planted with Italian varieties. This vintage is predominantly Sangiovese with small amounts of Aglianico and Negroamaro. This elegant, food friendly wine would go great with your meat rich pastas.
Caduceus 2017 Sancha- Yavapai County, Arizona- $91.95
From English Folklore, Sancha was married to a count that she had to rescue a few times. The most notable rescue was when she swapped places with him in prison by wearing his clothes. This wine is Maynard’s version of Ribera del Duero. Made with 100% Tempranillo, aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Expect notes of dried red fruits, tobacco, spice and leather.
Caduceus 2018 Primer Paso- Yavapai County, Arizona- $82.95
This is their take on a Côte Rotie from the Rhone Valley in France. Classically these wines must be Syrah dominated with some small amounts of Viognier allowed as a way to increase aromatics and freshness. This take from Arizona, is mostly Syrah, with a small amount of Petite Syrah and an even smaller amount of Malvasia. This silky wine will have notes of purple and blue fruit, pepper and black olives
Caduceus 2019 Kitsune- Willcox, Arizona- $87.95
From Japanese Folklore, Kitsune are fox-like creatures with paranormal powers that increase with age. Similarly, you could hold on to this wine for a couple years longer to see its development. This wine is fully made up of Sangiovese. It is Maynard’s take on Chianti. Notes of cherries, tobacco and tomato leaf.
Caduceus 2019 Anubis- Yavapai County, Arizona- $84.95
Anubis is the Egyptian God of the underworld and death. This full bodied red wine is considered to be the beefiest of all of their wines. This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Aglianico. Meant to be most like a Meritage Blend, or a Bordeaux Blend outside of Bordeaux, with the addition of Italian Aglianico. This wine has notes of green tobacco, plum, red fruit leather and baking spice. Enjoy your heartiest meal on a cold day.
